Computer Lab
Thunderbird High School's computer lab features 64 new Windows XP computers and 6 laser printers. The lab is available before and after school for student use and during the school day for classes. Computer users are regulated by GUHSD's computer policy.
Computer/Network Acceptable Use Policy
The Glendale Union High School District computer and network communication systems are to assist in the collaboration and exchange of information among schools, school offices, parents, students and teachers. The goal is to promote educational excellence in the use of the network system and the Internet.
You should be aware that it is impossible to control access to all inappropriate materials on the global network. However, the school district will take steps to protect students and teachers from any information that may not be considered educational by making students/teachers aware of responsible network use and by the use of filtering software to attempt to block student access to inappropriate materials.
1. Acceptable Use. The use of your assigned account must be in support of education and research within the educational goals of the Glendale Union High School District.
2. Access. The open use of the network system requires the acceptable of this contract. The System Administrators will decide appropriate use of the network, and his/her decisions are final. If inappropriate use of the network is found, a teacher, administrator, or the System Administrator may close an account or limit access to the network. Inappropriate use of the network will also result in a referral for disciplinary action following the guidelines of the Student Handbook.
3. Personal Responsibility. As a representative of the school you accept personal responsibility for reporting any misuse of the network to the System Administrator. Misuse can come in many forms, but is is commonly viewed as any message sent or received or information posted that indicates or suggest pornography, unethical, or illegal solicitation, racism, sexism, inappropriate language, and other issues described below. All rules of conduct described in the Student Handbook apply when you are on the network, or use the network to produce or post information/assignments.
4. Prohibited and unacceptable uses include, but are not limited to:
a. Transmission of any material in violation of school policies or any federal or state laws. Some examples are copyrighted material, threatening or obscene material or materials protected by trade secret.
b. Commercial activities by for-profit institutions.
c. Use of product advertisement or political lobbying.
d. Any use which shall serve to disrupt the use of the network by other users.
e. Any use of another user’s account or allowing another user to use your account.
f. Any attempt to log in to a network’s restricted or secure areas or programs.
g. Any behaviors that are prohibited in the Student Handbook.
5. Security. If you identify a security proble, notify the System Administrator or Teacher at once.
6. Network Etiquette. You are expected to abide by the generally accepted rules of network etiquette and any school rules given in the Student Handbook. Use of the network, including email, should be limited to educational uses.
