Speech and Debate Team- Lauren Colombo and Erin Long, Coaches

Anyone who enjoys the acting aspects of theater but the competitive aspects of sports should consider joining the Speech and Debate team.

Speech participants memorize or write pieces and use them to perform in front of the school and community, like other Performing Arts, as well as at competitive tournaments. Debate participants write and practice cases that they use to argue at competitive tournaments as well. All members also enjoy many social events.

Team members meet after school to workshop their pieces and cases in order to develop their speaking abilities for weekend tournaments. These competitions develop members’ dramatic, humorous, or argumentative talents as well as improve one’s ability to compete under pressure. Often, members win trophies for their entries into tournaments, so they feel school pride and the sense of victory, too.

Truly, the best part of Speech and Debate is the social aspect; such activities help develop members’ personality, communication skills, and network of friends.

National Forensics League- Lauren Colombo and Erin Long, Coaches/Sponsors

This honorary society is for competing members of the Speech and Debate team.  As an organization, the National Forensic League embraces diversity, interconnection, and visionary leadership. It empowers students to become effective communicators, ethical individuals, critical thinkers, and leaders in a democratic society.  Membership in this prestigious group allows its members to compete on the National circuit and win honors and awards.  To join, students must first join Speech and Debate team and then earn points for places at tournaments.
