Participation

Each of you should know that participation in commencement is entirely optional, and there is no penalty if a parent/guardian prefers that the student not participate in the ceremony.  A parent must inform Mrs. Schurman, in writing, that the student will not take part in the ceremony.  Students who do not participate, may pick up their diploma in the Record’s office after May 24th.

Dress

Graduates must observe the following dress code if they wish to participate:

For women:    Skirts and blouses, dresses or pant suits.  Strapless dresses are not encouraged.

For men:         Dress shirts, preferably with a tie, and dress slacks.

For all participants:  Dress shoes must be worn.  No tennis shoes, flip-flops, or denim will be permitted.

What the graduate needs to bring to the facility

Graduate should only bring himself/herself dressed appropriately and cap and gown.

-Do NOT wear cap and gown into the building!!!

-Leave clothes hangers, food, beverage, sunglasses, gum, cell phones, and other items in the car.

-Leave purses or bags in the car, but be sure you have your CAR KEYS with you.

Inappropriate Behavior

Any student found to have been drinking, be under the influence of any drug, or possessing alcohol or drugs of any kind will not be permitted to participate and could be reported to the local authorities.

Consequences of Behavior

Student exhibiting disorderly or disruptive behavior will be removed from the ceremony.  We do not want to remove anyone but will if necessary.  Any behavior that attempts to draw unnecessary attention to himself/herself will not be tolerated.  Parents, we are asking for your understanding and cooperation in these issues.

Tickets

Guests will be allowed into the facility by ticket only.  Students will receive the ticket request sheet on Tuesday April 26th.  Please list the name of each guest and the relationship to you. Students will receive 6 tickets for free, any additional tickets may be purchased for $5.00 per ticket.   Any extra tickets can be purchased by the graduate only through the bookstore May 16th through May 20th.  Anyone occupying a seat must have a ticket.  There will be no refunds after May 23rd.

Tickets will be distributed May 13th during both lunches in the lobby of the main gym.  Students must show their 15/16 student ID or driver’s license to receive their tickets.   If a student is in need of additional tickets, they can be purchased by the graduate only through the bookstore May 16th through May 20th.  Please do not use the tickets as graduation announcements. The school reserves the right to review the guest list and deny entry of a guest to the ceremony

Guests

Guests must be appropriately dressed for admission to the graduation ceremony.  Those who come wearing cut-offs, flip flops or tee shirts with obscene wording or pictures will be turned away.

Please do not bring balloons or other gifts to the ceremony.  These items will not be allowed into the arena, and guests will be asked to leave the items in their vehicle.  Guests under the age of 18 must be accompanied by and sit with an adult.

Spectators are asked to act with restraint and not applaud, call out, whistle or use an air horn during the reading of the graduates’ names.  It is devastating to a family to have their graduate’s brief moment stolen by someone’s outburst and is very disruptive to the spirit of the ceremony.  It simply should not occur.

Professional Photographer

A professional photographer has been contracted to take a photo of each graduate upon receiving their diploma.  These photos will be available to order and the cost of the photo packets will vary.  In addition, the ceremony will be recorded and made available through an order form.  Parents and guests may not come down to the floor or stand in the aisles to take photos or set up video cameras.   Picture information will be distributed to students on May 20nd.

Special Needs

The facility is set up to adequately accommodate seating for the handicapped.  Please contact Ms. Galindo at (623) 915-8922 if you have a guest with special needs.
